Our Story

our organizational story

“I was previously incarcerated.”

That’s not an easy statement to proclaim, but one that our Founder, Rhonda Bear, is more than happy to share. From an early age, Rhonda struggled with drug addiction—resulting in numerous arrests, losing custody of her children, and serving time in prison. After regaining custody of her kids, Rhonda began working with other organizations in the area to uplift and encourage women like herself through the transition from incarceration back into society.

She later founded She Brews as a way to provide stable employment and housing, life skills, and mentors to walk alongside women. Her perseverance and dedication has made She Brews what it is today: a growing coffee house, roastery, and transition program dedicated to disrupting cycles of incarceration and restoring families. We use quality coffee to open doors and create second chances for women transitioning out of incarceration. Our programs and employment opportunities give women the skills, community support, and inspiration to break the cycle of incarceration and reunite with their children.

At She Brews, we’re serving truly transformative coffee.

Finding safe and sober living after incarceration can be a huge barrier.

With no money, no job, and not to mention a felony record, most landlords don’t want to take on this population. Helping a woman find a safe and stable place to sleep is the first step to getting her life back on track.

At She Brews, we provide safe and affordable residential housing and program support for women transitioning out of incarceration across Oklahoma. Our housing program includes group homes, family homes for women reuniting with their children, and graduate homes for women who need extended support.

Pillars of our Housing Program: Hope, Community, Healing, Discipleship

We know that by creating safe housing, a community to grow and heal with, and mentorship to walk through the challenges, we can provide women with the foundation of a journey to success.

we’re pouring out hope

Meet the women who work at She Brews, where lives are changed with every cup.

She Brews began with the mission to lift up women coming out of incarceration, providing them with a safe, supportive environment to live in recovery and develop new skills to craft a new life. We live that mission every day, and we embrace the stories of the women in our shops as sources of hope. Change is always possible when you wake up and do good.

Stephanie

Stephanie had been addicted to drugs since the age of 12, had her first child at 15, and ended up in prison for the first time at 19. For many, this would have been a rock bottom, but Stephanie continued in her active addiction, even inside of prison. During her last stay, she prayed fervently for deliverance from her addiction, and for a path forward. After volunteering for chapel service, she met Rhonda, and though she had nowhere to go upon being released from prison, she found a home in the transitional housing program, and a new job at She Brews. Today, she is sober, working on reconciliation and reunification with her children, and is returning to school after many years. She has also found her place as one of the top baristas at She Brews, where she has found unconditional, loving community.
