We recommend coffee being used 4-14 days post roast for peak freshness.

Whole bean coffee, once roasted, typically maintains its best quality for roughly 2 to 6 weeks, though it can still be consumed after this period. The longevity and freshness depend on various factors, such as the type of bean, the roast level, and most importantly, how the coffee is stored.

Storing Coffee

Key factors to consider for preserving the freshness of whole bean coffee:

1. Air: Coffee beans are sensitive to oxygen. Exposure to air can lead to oxidation, which degrades the quality and flavor of the beans. It’s important to store coffee in an airtight container.

2. Light: Direct light, whether sunlight or artificial light, can also impact the beans negatively. Dark, opaque containers are preferable for storage.

3. Moisture: Beans should be kept in a dry environment to prevent them from getting damp or moldy.

4. Temperature: Store the beans in a cool, stable environment. Fluctuations in temperature can lead to condensation and adversely affect the beans.

How Long Does Coffee Stay Fresh?

After the optimal freshness period of 2-6 weeks, coffee beans don’t necessarily “spoil” in the way perishable foods do, but their flavors and aromas will diminish. They can still be brewed for several months after roasting, but the coffee might not have the vibrant profiles it initially possessed.

For the best coffee experience, it’s recommended to consume the beans within the optimal freshness window of 4-14 days post roast and to buy beans in quantities that can be used up within this timeframe.
